How can this music set in motion the ghosts of another era, sculpted by other stories? To seek to link the incantatory dimension of Rameau&#8217;s music with the cathartic scope of these dances. I&#8217;d like to take these movements, each of which in its own way tells the story of a minority, a community, sketching out an entry into the world through gesture, and gradually unhinge them, bringing them face to face with Leonardo Garc\u00eda-Alarc\u00f3n&#8217;s adaptation of Baroque music.&#8221; <\/em><\/p>\n<cite><strong>Bintou Demb\u00e9l\u00e9<\/strong><\/cite><\/blockquote>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n\n<div class=\"wp-block-columns is-layout-flex wp-container-core-columns-is-layout-28f84493 wp-block-columns-is-layout-flex\">\n<div class=\"wp-block-column is-layout-flow wp-block-column-is-layout-flow\">\n<p><em>De la voix des \u00e2mes &#8211; Les Indes Galantes<\/em> is an artistic experiment fusing Jean-Philippe Rameau&#8217;s baroque opera with the raw energy of hip-hop and krump, directed and choreographed by Bintou Demb\u00e9l\u00e9.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Born of the encounter between Bintou Dembel\u00e9 and Leonardo Garc\u00eda-Alarc\u00f3n during the 2019 production of Les Indes Galantes at the Op\u00e9ra Bastille, and inspired by the conductor&#8217;s innovative musical vision, this choreographed concert transcends the boundaries between musical genres and forms of bodily expression.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>By exploring the roots of Western music through contemporary popular cultures, this creation reveals the universal pulse uniting music and dance. Rameau&#8217;s music is carried by Leonardo Garc\u00eda Alarc\u00f3n&#8217;s two ensembles, Cappella Mediterranea and the Ch\u0153ur de Chambre de Namur, as well as a first-rate cast of soloists, while hip-hop and krump dancers from the Rualit\u00e9 structure passionately embody the complex emotions and irregular rhythms of the human soul.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><em>De la voix des \u00e2mes &#8211; We don&#8217;t know who came first in music or dance, and we&#8217;d probably have to invent a word to describe the indefectible link that unites them. It is both the pulse of life and the apprenticeship of death. It is the rite of existence that enables us to face up to the unknown, the elusive that surrounds our presence in the world: music and dance link us to the universe, allowing us to be there, to take part in the great concert, the great ballet of stars, planets and black holes that is being played out in space.  <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It seems to me that the Baroque understood this, but not only that: it also perceived that every human emotion has an asymmetry of rhythm.Extreme emotions such as love, hate, anger, fear of death or abandonment have no measurable or quantifiable rhythm.Opera is precisely this utopian attempt to make the rhythm of music and dance coexist with that mysterious, elusive, all-too-human rhythm. So much so that &#8211; to pastiche Plato &#8211; we could say that in opera, <em>emotion is the measure of all things<\/em>. And that&#8217;s why we love this world so much, where everything finally escapes us and we lose our footing.    <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This feeling is not unique to learned or elitist music. Most of the world&#8217;s popular music is linked to this baroque feeling by the impulse, by the power of words, of text, of oral tradition&#8230; It is the power to touch &#8211; by simple and direct means &#8211; what is the very essence of all human existence. <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>C\u2019est ce que j\u2019ai ressenti en observant pour la premi\u00e8re fois Bintou Demb\u00e9l\u00e9 travailler avec ses danseurs lors des <em>Indes Galantes<\/em> \u00e0 l\u2019Op\u00e9ra Bastille. Lorsque j\u2019ai pris conscience que ces danseurs \u00e9taient en train de cr\u00e9er sous mes yeux comme si la musique et son compositeur \u00e9taient bien vivants, je me suis dit que nous \u00e9tions en train de vivre un miracle. Le spectacle a \u00e9t\u00e9 cr\u00e9\u00e9 en 2019 avec le succ\u00e8s que nous connaissons. J\u2019ai eu par la suite l\u2019occasion d\u2019en montrer des extraits partout \u00e0 travers le monde, provoquant \u00e0 chaque fois le m\u00eame choc. Aussi ai-je mis un point d\u2019honneur \u00e0 poursuivre l\u2019aventure, \u00e0 proposer \u00e0 Bintou de r\u00e9p\u00e9ter les conditions de ce miracle en \u00e9laborant une forme in\u00e9dite de \u201cconcert chor\u00e9graphique\u201d une forme qui nous permettrait d\u2019explorer librement la relation des danseurs aux chanteurs, de continuer \u00e0 aimer et faire aimer ce lien inou\u00ef qui
